Microbiome

Can cleanliness make you sick?

Each of us lives with trillions of bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi in and around our bodies. Together, these are the microbiome, what's been called the largest organ in the body.

Our scholars study various aspects of our microbiome, including how it programs our immune systems, what damage we're doing when we overuse antibacterial sanitizers, and how we can use the microbiome to prevent and treat diseases from autism and asthma to obesity and irritable bowel syndrome.
