Michael Sideris is a professor and Associate Head (Graduate Studies) in the Department of Geomatics Engineering in UCalgary's Schulich School of Engineering. He has been Associate Dean (Engineering) in the Faculty of Graduate Studies from 2003 to 2011, and Associate Dean (Research) in SSE from 1999 to 2005. He is currently the elected President of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) from 2015 to 2019, and was also President of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) from 2007-2011. He is an Alexander von Humboldt International Research Fellow and a Fellow of the IAG.
His research interests are in the areas of gravity field approximation, spatial and temporal geoid modeling, dedicated gravity satellite missions (GRACE, GOCE), satellite altimetry, airborne gravimetry and gravity gradiometry, height systems and vertical datums, optimization, and geodetic applications of statistical, spectral, and wavelet methods.
